In addition to enjoying the Turkey with all the Trimmings, Soups, Potatoes, Vegetables and Fruit Pies, here is a healthy Thanksgiving Tip for teachers and your preschoolers’ parents from one of our favorite nutritionist and consultant to our programs, Jackie Newgent.
Add flair to the table and stop everyone, including yourself, from overdoing it by offering individual portions of the fattiest items on the menu, suggests Jackie Newgent, R.D., culinary nutritionist and author of numerous healthy food and nutrition books. “For instance, bake stuffing in cups of a muffin pan; make sweet potato or green bean casserole in individual ramekins; ladle creamy soups into cups; or serve gravy or rich salad dressing in shot glasses.” Pre-sizing eliminates the opportunity to pile up those calories.
For all pre-school teachers, and assistants: Here is a short blurb that can be reprinted and sent home to the parents of your students. The milestones discussed in this blog, can be practiced and reached thorough the Animal Trackers program for your 3, 4 and 5 year olds.
With more young children being hurt in automobile accidents, car safety updates are always good reminders for parents on how to keep their young children safe. The PNC Foundation supports a variety of nonprofit organizations with a special emphasis on those that work to achieve sustainability and touch a diverse population, in particular, those that support early childhood education and/or economic development.
The PNC Foundation this week announced a new $5 million alliance with DonorsChoose.org, enabling the online charity to include requests from Head Start teachers across the nation. A recent study conducted by the National Head Start Association showed that 94 percent of teachers need more resources to enrich the classroom, but 84 percent are unable to fund experiences they want to provide.
As part of this initiative, a donation of $504,000 funded 849 project requests in public and charter school pre-K classrooms in 22 states and Washington, D.C., where PNC conducts business. PNC also is matching, dollar for dollar, donations that support the pre-K public, charter, and Head Start projects listed on DonorsChoose.org in the PNC footprint.
